This year the hackathon will take place on February 8th-9th, 2019. It is NOT overnight.
It will be at the Pennovation Center on the University of Pennsylvania's campus in Philadelphia on Saturday, Feb 9th, and in Penn Engineering on Friday, Feb 8th.
Any college or high student student in the Philly area that identifies as a woman or non-binary person is welcome. No experience is required!
Nope! Nada! It's free even to get to/from here with our Lyft codes.
A computer, charger, and enthusiasm :D ... and maybe a bag for all the dope swag ;)
Of course! We have a bunch of mentors to help you out, as well as workshops. Last year we had 1 mentor to every 4 hackers.
We'll have a team formation event on Friday, and a mini one Saturday. Don't let that deter you-- you'll be able to find a team super quickly at these events. Most people are in the same boat. We've had winning teams who have never met before!
All kinds! Big tech companies like Google/Facebook/Microsoft/Intel, fintech orgs like Jane Street and Bloomberg, tech-related companies like The New York Times, startups like Squarespace and Curalate, and apps like Snapchat have come in the past. Our goal is to have variety.
Uhm, yes please!!! FemmeHacks values diversity of age, race, economic status, gender expression, size, physical ability, developmental ability, learning styles, nationality, religion, thought, citizenship status, and sexual orientation. We welcome all disciplines and interests, experience levels, and skill sets. We promote respect and do not tolerate racism, sexism, homophobia, or other discriminatory behavior or expression.
FemmeHacks acknowledges the complicated nature of the word “women,” knowing it may not work for many, and can feel unwelcoming or alienating for some. We use * to specifically and intentionally welcome trans and cis women, as well as nonbinary and gender non-conforming folks :). Equality for all, y'all.
Come make amazing memories + friends, network with awesome companies, and develop awesome projects to showcase your skillz in a safe, fun, encouraging, snack-filled environment.
